A poorly dimensioned kitchen design can quickly turn cooking into a tiring, cumbersome chore. That’s why getting the measurements right for your kitchen cabinets is key.
Base Cabinets
For base cabinet height, you can use this handy guideline as a starting point:
Base cabinet height = (User’s height ÷ 2) + 5 cm
Take this example: if the primary cook in the household is 180 cm tall, the ideal base cabinet height would be 95 cm.
Of course, average heights vary across regions and countries, so minor adjustments can make a big difference in usability. For instance, you can raise the sink area by 10 cm compared to the rest of the countertop. This way, you won’t have to hunch over to rinse veggies or wash dishes, while the cooking zone will still sit at a comfortable height—especially once you factor in the height of your pots and pans.
As for depth: the cabinet box itself is typically 55 cm deep, with the countertop extending to 60 cm. If your kitchen includes corner cabinets, we recommend leaving an 80 cm clearance on either side of the corner countertop for easy access.
Wall Cabinets
When it comes to wall cabinets, the ideal setup is to have the bottom edge align with eye level, while the top edge can go all the way up to the ceiling. A standard bottom height range is 150–170 cm for most users.
The depth of the wall cabinet box is usually 35 cm.
